[...] Thomas Edward Greene The information of our beloved Mr. Thomas Edward Greene was shared and written by his home conference, The Southwest Alabama Conference under the leadership of President Betty Davis. We in the Ninth District lost a “gem” at his passing. A Legacy Preserved in the Ninth Episcopal District Mr. Thomas Edward “Peter” Greene 1939-2010 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighted in his way.” Psalm 37:23
Affectionally called Peter Greene, he had a long history as an active member of the Lay Organization on all levels. Brother Peter served twice as president of the Central Alabama Conference Lay Organization. He was elected the third Episcopal District president. Fulfilling his calling, he ran and was elected second vice president of the Connectional Lay Organization and later became first vice president after the death of CLO President Arthur Brown. Peter held the position until his death in 2010.
Mr. Greene’s impact on people’s lives is evidenced by his humanitarian work. His legacy continues today through the awarding of the Hayden-Greene-Stokes Memorial Scholarship, estabished in 2021, to assist eligible clegy and laity of the Southwest Alabama Conference, formerly the Central Alabama Conference. Three recipients have received funds to further their religious education. With God’s help, his legacy is being preserved for future generations. Submitted by: Sister Veronica L.
